Valentine. Not the lover’s holiday, the musician. Never heard of him
you
say? Well if you have ever watched network sporting events, television
shows or movies, then you are familiar and have been delighted by the
music
of local artist Valentine. Shows such as 20/20, Wide World of Sports,
60
Minutes and the film Grumpy Old Men have all featured his music. Also a
prodigious performer and solo artist he has released a new CD under the
heading Valentine Project titled Better Days. The CD conjures up Steely
Dan with a bluesy jazz-rock sound with horns and a soulful vibe in the
vocal arrangements. “Such A Woman” with its bouncing bass, guitar and
keyboards
is a great way to start the disc. “Rain” features a cascading piano on
the intro and through the refrain to achieve the title’s effect.
“Jamie”,
a very Steely Dan style song, features signature changes and tight bass
lines. “Night Train” is a straight out rocker with organ flourishes and
a scorching guitar solo. “Travelin’ (Oh, Virginia)” is a classic
sounding
Southern blues-rock with just a tinge of Gospel harmonies. The breezy
fun
sound of “If I Live To Be 100” closes the disc on a light note. For
